Soft Power is an exhibition catalog design for a feminist curatorial project that examines the historical divide between “fine art” and traditional female craft practices such as embroidery, quilting, weaving, sewing, and textile work. The exhibition brings together six female artists — Judy Chicago, Faith Ringgold, Miriam Schapiro, Chiharu Shiota, Mary Kelly, and Ema Shin — whose works use textiles, thread, stitching, collage, layering, and repetitive handmade processes to challenge the hierarchy of art history.

The project focuses on materials and techniques that have often been dismissed as domestic labor or “women’s work,” reframing them as powerful forms of contemporary artistic expression. Through themes of invisible labor, care, memory, femininity, and resistance, Soft Power explores how soft, intimate, and historically overlooked materials can become large-scale visual and spatial experiences.

The catalog design reflects this concept through a visual language of softness, layering, and tension. Typography, image placement, color, and layout are used to create a balance between delicacy and strength, echoing the exhibition’s central idea: that craft is not simply decoration, but a meaningful cultural, political, and artistic practice.
